Acts of charity are a private matter between the giver and God and should be used only to glorify Him, not to honor the giver.  There are eternal implications if we get this wrong.

It is the nature and character of God to be good and so His goodness is shown to all people at all times, regardless of how "good" they are.  We represent Him and are to display His character at all times as well, regardless of how we are treated.

Our dignity, our possessions, our time, these are not under our control as much as we think they are.  So life in Kingdom when these things are challenged has more to do with how we engage with one another than it does with how we maintain them.
